(7) Zanzibar Team Holiday Planning 2014

HOT PAGE FOR OUR TEAM PLANNING.
(We all have to work together as a Team to achieve our goal).

Temporary Intro.

New proposal plans will be posted here which will involve feedback from each member. The first and most important item will be the selection of our hotels & flights.

ITEM 1. First Stop. TEMBO for a few days. Should new members plan to come, need to work out how long one wants to stay in town so it may be we have two teams splitting, one staying for 5-7 days in town, and the other for 3-4 days. For the Specials - Serena!!

Please note - if a package budget plan has to be implemented with some or majority of members, perhaps the Tembo apartments may be considered. (Open for discussion - go downmarket the first week and freak out the second at a 5 star pad).

ITEM 2. Beachside Move - My suggestion is that it must be an 'ALL-INCLUSIVE' hotel and nothing else which will help make life very comfortable for all ... wine, dine and make merry all day long with pre-dinner cocktails.

Should we have between 12-16 members in the team, careful consideration will be given to see for real good package deals to include flights and accommodation which in many cases works out cheaper but all the same we will rely on Tony (Madeira Tours) and Pervin for the very best as we have enjoyed on two occasions, 2008 & 2012.

There is no rush for Forward planning right now but great to know erly who will certainly want to join the team. Of course Patsy and Rooky in the forefront which is the best start. The rest will follow so if we combine 2008 and 2012 members, we will have a fabulous team allowing room for just a few SELECT folks recommended. We must not try to exceed 16.

TEAM MEMBERS - Please make your views and preferences known as early as possible and for an example:-

Ben & Betty will be happy to be in town for 3 nights.

Patsy our Team Leader and myself will certainly work closely together with all the planning to make sure everyone is happy and everyone gets the very best from their Dream Holiday 2014.

Should we have 2 or more couples joining us for the first time, we will make sure we have good guideline notes to make them aware of how the team functions. To help make life easy, if Patsy does not mind, she can take care of the general team planning on special events, travels, excursions by holding a kitty which she conducted greatly on our 2008 holiday.

I have also observed that Patsy never misses out tipping those who have given us good service and this is great. Hope Patsy will continue to support this operation for the full team.

The above is just idle chat which I have just rattled to help get us all thinking.  Long way for Decision time.

Last but not least .... once we settle on dates, hopefully similar to this year 2012, I beg all the team members not to RUSH and try and make personal arrangements for flights etc., before a full final plan is in place. If we work together and negotiate a good team discount, savings can be used towards some general expenses. Rooky dont fly to Zanzibar a few days earlier and leave a few days before the end!!!! Same to others.

Anyone wanting to go on a Safari, may do so and suggest after the end of the Zanzibar Holiday or if necessary before. Wildersun Tours under M&P will take care of your Safari plans as always.

Patsy suggested we stay longer than 2 weeks. Need feedback from all. B&B are prepared for longer and if so, we would stay a bit longer in town.

With Merwyn & Pervin in the team, we are out for a swell time as before. BOSS Pervin will give the orders. We have to follow her swimming times and in 2014, I will have the Tide Time Table in place so we all catch the High Tide together.

If we are 12-16 or more folks, there will be some guideline SPORTS timetable making everyone aware of what one can do so no one gets left out. (Play games if you wish, sunbathe otherwise etc - these plans will normally be scheduled after breakfast).

Now that we have a few ladies who play Table Tennis we can have games of mixed doubles, ladies singles, etc., besides the Pool games plus, cards, and scrabble and the Dice game much enjoyed, now that Patsy has become an expert. The members can split in groups for various activities.

There will be no restrictions on anyone wanting to do anything but being responsible for a big party, it is important to try and plan for the majority and this we will not fail to do.

P.S. I am aware of the common practice to allow the freedom for all to do what they want and when they want, and this will always be the case but with my background experience, some folks like things planned for them and this I will make sure. Take it or leave it as one wishes.

We are lucky to have time to plan well so lets make it a very super special holiday.

Final Comment:- Mapenzi Beach Resort was pretty exceptional with our Villas right on the Beach and the lovely corner we had next to Rooky's pad where the Beauty Queens could sun-bathe freely with no on-lookers. The Hot Spot also had lovely sheltered areas. This would be hard to match elsewhere, but equally going back to the same place can be a bit boring too, expecting the same and nothing different.

Hotel Entertainment at Mapenzi was not up to Tourist standards with just one day a LIVE band performing.
(Perhaps they should have a duo/trio performing for a couple of other nights as the African Theme Nights are stale-mate).

This week my report with new proposals will be sent to Mapenzi management and will await their responses as they have a few things to hopefully put right which I have chosen to point out for the good of future tourists staying at Mapenzi.

The Resort has been advertised as a 3* Star in some brochures but I would rate it as 3-1/2*and could trim to 4 star. The only mega plus it has is the Beach Location for a big group which is very private and good management and all-round staff.

That's all for the first boring update.

Best regards to all.
Benny
